Today's Real Talk
Mood:  quizzical
Now Playing: Isaiah 26:3 and IJames 1:17
Topic: Jesus is the Reason for the Seas

Especially during this holiday season, we must remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. OK, many of us know that Jesus wasn't even born in the winter.  But somehow, society figured out a way to capitalize on His birth by commercializing it and associating it with snow, decking the halls, trimming the trees, and shopping while going deep into debt. They even came up with an image of a jolly ole fat cat dressed up in a red suit, who sits around in department stores taking pictures with our children while promising to give them their hearts desire if they've been nice all year. Well I guess that's all fine and good as long as we keep it in perpective, affordable, and if it's something we choose to do. After all, our nation declares it as a national holiday, but it's lost its true meaning. I believe if we remember that the real reason for CHRISTmas is Jesus and that it is better to give than to receive, there would be less despair, disappointment, and depression around this time of the year. When we leave Jesus out of the picture, the holiday season take on a whole different meaning. Christmas is suppose to be when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, peace on earth and good will towards men, and giving without expecting to receive in return, but now days, it's everything but that. Instead of being thankful, we become thoughtless; forgetting about the less fortunate. Instead of being joyful, we look around at our neighbors and become jealous and envious; coveting their possessions.  Instead of being grateful for what we already have, we're overcome with greed; scuffling and sceaming while trying to purchase and maintain the latest inventions in technology and other materialistic things that we can hardly afford . And instead of spreading peace and love, we spread discord and hatred towards our fellow man. To go one step further, we even X out Christ in Christmas spelling it Xmas; completely wiping out His name. Come on yall, we had better get a clue! None of this is Christ like and God's not gonna bless no mess.

So why did I say all of this? Simply to say this, Jesus is the reason for the season and we all need to be mindful of this. Isaiah 26:3 says, He'll keep you in pertect peace whose mind is stayed on Him. Jesus will protect us from those negative spirits whose soul purpose is to distort and put a damper on this time of year.  James 1:17 tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above, so why not give the gift of Jesus to those in need this holiday season. It's the perfect gift and it doesn't cost a thing.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to You and Yours,
